Overview

Artificial intelligence is doing amazing things- but is often falling short on it’s user interface. Wayformer utilizes artificial intelligence to identify an ideal vacation itinerary for each user based off of information that is gathered in a short quiz.

Wayformer provides the user with tour dates, hotels, ideal routes through train, busses and more; all based off of the user’s preferences and budget.

Objective

Create the easiest way to plan a vacation.

Help users stick to their budget when traveling.

Allow users to plan group vacations based off of all member’s preferences.

What are the biggest paint points of planning Travel?

Budgeting

Those surveyed described frustrations with trying to plan their trip within their budget, without running out of money and the complications of fluctuating prices.

Airport

Many of those surveyed complained about flying, connecting flights and flights being cancelled.

Group Planning

Some surveyed who often travel in groups had specific qualms regarding group planning. These included, group budgeting, choosing activities as a group, overall group participation and aligning group schedules.

Itinerary

Surveyees listed the struggles of Itinerary planning. People cited that some cities felt like there was too much to do, while others felt like there was not enough. There was also the struggle of finding things to do that are not far apart.

Current Travel Timeline

To break down the process of a self-planned vacation, we looked at the overall timeline of planning a trip. We felt the biggest paint points were focused around the planning and execution stages, so we focused our features around these elements.

Problem Statement

Planning a vacation is a whirlwind of emotions and often results in stress-filled weeks of Pinterest boards, flight price alarms, a thousand different websites each with different prices for the same hotel and a dreaded feeling that it could all be cancelled by one bad rainstorm. The issues are only compounded when working with a limited budget, or attempting to plan with a group of people.

New User Journey

How might we create a centralized travel planning experience for vacationers?

The Solution

Wayformer takes advantage of the large gap in the travel market. There is a lack of travel itinerary building services and none have utilized artificial intelligence. Wayformer creates personalized travel itineraries for users based on their preferences and budget.

What I learned:

In this project, I learned more about navigation. Navigation was probably the most challenging part of this project. We tried multiple solutions, and I am still not 100% sure this is the perfect solution.

What I would do differently:

I would’ve enjoyed adding more screens for the website, most of the energy was put into the app since itineraries are usually for on-the-go, but I think the website could have more opportunities for customization that would be harder to fit into the mobile app.
